The 2021 ACES Teacher of the Year is Sharee Baskin, a third-grade teacher at ACES Wintergreen Interdistrict Magnet School in North Haven, CT. On June 9th, Area Cooperative Educational Services (ACES) held their 2021 Teacher of the Year & Executive Director’s Recognition Award ceremony in the gymnasium of the ACES Leeder Hill campus in Hamden, CT.

ACES Aims to Increase Teacher Diversity with CREC Teacher Residency Program

The Teacher Residency Program was created by CREC and began in 2019, with approval from the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) as a revolutionary method of recruiting, training, certifying, and retaining elementary teachers of color. CREC’s first cohorts produced 26 new teachers of color. ACES is proud to partner in this mission and is actively recruiting more districts for their first cohort, which is scheduled to begin coursework this summer.

John Tarka Appointed as Principal at ACES Whitney Academy

“We are thrilled to be able to continue to deliver excellent teaching and learning to our Whitney Academy students and their families under the leadership of John Tarka,” said ACES Executive Director Tom Danehy. Dr. Danehy went on to describe Mr. Tarka ’s outstanding prior work as Assistant Principal at Hillhouse High School in New Haven, as well as his knowledge base, experiences with special needs students, and personality traits that will help to provide equity in learning for students with special needs.
