ACES will be celebrating the reopening of the Little Theatre on Lincoln Street with a ribbon cutting ceremony June 6 at 11 a.m.

Built in 1924, New Haven’s Little Theatre (formerly known as Little Theatre on Lincoln) has seen several incarnations, including a period as a beloved art-film cinematheque. After months of construction, the latest transformation will be unveiled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony to be held June 6. Designed by local architecture firm Svigals + Partners, the renovation for Area Cooperative Educational Services (ACES) preserves the structure’s unique historic qualities while delivering dual functions: a cutting-edge theater venue and performing arts teaching facility.

The ACES Governing Board is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Thomas Danehy as the new Executive Director of ACES. Dr. Danehy comes from an impressive career as a teacher, assistant principal, principal at the elementary, middle school, and a magnet high school on the campus of a community college, where he was on the College President’s Cabinet. Most recently, Dr. Danehy served as superintendent of the public schools in Winchester, Conn. Danehy has also worked for a neighboring RESC, led human resources, and overseen special education in many of his leadership roles.

MERIDEN — In a report released this week, a New Haven nonprofit group finds that enrollment at magnet, technical, and charter schools across the state doesn’t reflect the population diversity of the cities and towns where they’re located. Locally, however, Edison Middle School, an inter-district Area Cooperative Educational Services (ACES) magnet school, and H.C. Wilcox Technical High School, are more closely aligned to city demographics than other choice schools throughout the state.
