North Haven's ACES Village School reacts to shooting death of employee: Hamden man James Dudley

NORTH HAVEN — The Area Cooperative Educational Services community Tuesday morning expressed its sadness over the death of James Dudley, the Hamden man who was fatally shot on North Street Saturday night.

ACES Executive Director Craig W. Edmondson called Dudley a “highly respected and warmly regarded” employee where he worked as an individual aide at ACES Village School in North Haven. The school provides collaborative educational, emotional and physical services to children ages 3 to 14 years with a range of cognitive, physical, behavioral, language and medical challenges. The staff and families of Village School and the entire ACES community are deeply saddened by this tragic loss, Edmondson said.

“On behalf of the Governing Board, staff and entire ACES community, I wish to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of James Dudley. James worked at Village School where he made a positive impact on many students’ lives. He was a remarkable, compassionate and intelligent young man with a promising future. He will be greatly missed by the staff and students who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family,” Edmondson said in a prepared statement.

Hamden police on Monday announced the Sunday arrest of a juvenile accused of shooting Dudley three times in the chest and groin on North Street, where Dudley had grown up. He was 22.
