“A Language We All Speak”
08/4/2014
BY Julia Zorthian | AUG 1, 2014 2:51 PM, The New Haven INdependent
Each time bassist Jeff Fuller listed a name of a New Haven jazz icon, the roughly 70 people gathered around him broke into applause.
The crowd gathered on the roof of the downtown Briq restaurant Thursday to celebrate Fuller, a star of New Haven’s jazz scene for decades, just as a revival of the scene appears to be in the works.
The names Fuller listed included pianist Eddie Cercone, saxophonist Tommy Brasile, The Buster Brothers and drummer Jesse Hameen, who had just honored Fuller as an “unsung hero.”

by Staff ◊June 17, 2014 Edition
ACES will be celebrating the reopening of the Little Theatre on Lincoln Street with a ribbon cutting ceremony June 6 at 11 a.m.
Built in 1924, New Haven’s Little Theatre (formerly known as Little Theatre on Lincoln) has seen several incarnations, including a period as a beloved art-film cinematheque. After months of construction, the latest transformation will be unveiled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony to be held June 6. Designed by local architecture firm Svigals + Partners, the renovation for Area Cooperative Educational Services (ACES) preserves the structure’s unique historic qualities while delivering dual functions: a cutting-edge theater venue and performing arts teaching facility.
