ACES Honors JCC and Federation at Employer Recognition Dinner

HAMDEN — Ramani Durvasula, author, television host and clinical psychologist, asked students Friday morning at Wintergreen Interdistrict Magnet School to do nothing for 60 seconds.

It was no wonder Ayres-Brown took first place in the 29th annual Shakespeare Competition for high school students. Ayres-Brown attends ACES Education Center for the Arts in New Haven.

ACES is the Regional Educational Service Center for the 25 school districts in south central Connecticut. ACES exists to improve public education through innovative, high-quality, costeffective programs and services. As a Local Education Agency, ACES operates schools designed to meet the specific needs of the region.

Area Cooperative Education Services, named fifth among large companies in the top workplaces survey, employs close to 900 people in 14 buildings, including the eight magnet and special education schools that it manages as a district.

ACES Wintergreen Interdistrict Magnet School, 670 Wintergreen Ave., engaged its entire 640 student population in the recent American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops fundraiser to generate close to $7,000 in donations. The student’s fundraising effort ranked Wintergreen sixth of 450 participating schools in Connecticut. Physical Education teachers at the school, which has grades kindergarten through eight, organized the school-wide activity.

ACES was featured as a community partner in the UIL Holding Company December 2012 newsletter.
