HAMDEN — Students and faculty at the Wintergreen Interdistrict Magnet School gathered to mark the end of the school year with “WIMS Palooza,” a celebration featuring games, food, and attractions. Young people enjoyed a series of attractions on the WIMS campus — laser tag, a petting zoo, video games, balloons, cotton candy, inflatables, basketball, face-painting — as music pumped into the summer evening and the rain held off. Principal Todd Solli said he wanted to help grow a sense of community in the school and signal a fresh start at the beginning of the year, as he was new to the job — an idea that prompted the first WIMS Palooza.

  • The Value of An Integrated Preschool

    07/8/2018

A recent Harvard School of Education on the value of preschool education found that getting kids into center-based care is a good idea. Many researchers from Harvard University to Stanford University espouse the value of preschool education. Benefits of preschool are many.A positive preschool experience provides children with growth opportunities. Preschool provides ample opportunities to learn to share, follow instructions, and acquire the foundations that will set children up for success in elementary school. Further, preschool offers a nurturing environment for helping children develop their motor skills, language and cognitive abilities as well as pre-literacy and math skills. A positive preschool experience promotes social and emotional development. A high-quality preschool will help children build trusting relationships with adults and children. With so many preschool options, however, it can be difficult for parents to know which option is the right option for their child. This challenge may seem compounded by parents of special needs children.
