ACES Open Choice program helps students across Connecticut
January 16th, 2018
(WTNH) — The ACES Open Choice program is aimed at helping students succeed in various aspects in life.
Open Choice is an inter-district public school program intended to improve academic achievement; reduce racial, ethnic and economic isolation; and provide a choice of educational programs for public school students. The program is state funded and allows children from Hartford, New Haven and Bridgeport to voluntarily attend school in other districts that have space in their schools.
Open Choice started in New Haven around 1998. The average number of students for the past 20 years is 422. For the current school year, Open Choice has 455 students enrolled.
ACES Open Choice program serves 14 districts: Ansonia, Bethany, Branford, Cheshire, East Haven, Hamden, Milford, New Haven, North Branford, North Haven, Orange, Regional District #5, Wallingford & Woodbridge.
Some of the benefits of Open Choice include: student achievement, student and family satisfaction, friendship, sports and clubs, and college opportunities. Open Choice is also designed to eliminate and overcome stereotypes and biases by exposing students and engaging them in diverse learning communities.
Application begins on March 1st, 2018 at 3:30 p.m. and runs until April 11th at 3:30 p.m. Applications are received online only at: www.aces.org
