ACES UP Launches Green Schools - Clean Classrooms Campaign to Advance Sustainability, Reduce Energy Costs, and Improve Learning Environments
March 6th, 2025
(New Haven, CT –March 6, 2025) – Area Cooperative Educational Services (ACES) has announced the launch of its Green Schools – Clean Classrooms Campaign, a groundbreaking initiative designed to help school districts transition to sustainable energy solutions, reduce high energy costs, and create healthier learning environments for students and staff. The campaign is supported by the ACES UP program, which provides comprehensive technical, structural, and financial assistance to schools at no upfront cost.
The initiative comes at a time when improving classroom air quality and energy efficiency has become a national priority. Studies have shown that clean air and energy-efficient solutions not only enhance health but also improve academic performance and reduce absenteeism.
Key Features of the ACES UP Program:
- Technical & Structural Support
- Site assessments, including roof analysis for solar installations.
- Integration with existing utility infrastructure.
- Compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Engineering and electrical analysis for project readiness.
- Financial Assistance
- Access to third-party financing options with no upfront costs.
- Grant application support to secure funding for renewable energy projects.
- Sustainability & Cost Savings

Connecticut’s 25-Megawatt School Solar Program
ACES UP has played a pivotal role in designing Connecticut’s new 25-megawatt School Solar and Storage Program, which leverages solar energy and battery storage for public schools. The program offers incentives to schools that are “shovel-ready,” with funding available until the 25 MW capacity is fully allocated.
“By simplifying the transition to renewable energy, ACES UP empowers schools to achieve sustainability goals without the typical barriers,” said Tim Howes, Deputy Executive Director. “Our program is about more than just energy savings—it’s about creating healthier classrooms and inspiring the next generation of environmental leaders.”
Why This Matters
- Healthier Classrooms: Clean air improves cognitive function, reduces respiratory issues, and supports overall well-being for students and staff.
- Environmental Impact: Solar installations significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with Connecticut’s goal of decarbonizing its electric grid by 2040.
- Economic Benefits: Schools can save thousands of dollars annually on energy costs, freeing up funds for critical educational needs.
Call to Action
The Clean Air Classrooms Campaign is now open for applications. Schools interested in participating are encouraged to act quickly as incentives are limited. To learn more or begin the application process, contact Tim Howes at acesup@aces.org.
