Technology
Where it all started...
One-2-One Computing, an initiative that began in the fall of 2005, has provided each student at WIMS with a one-to-one device. Students in grades 3-8 have their own Chromebook while our youngest learners, in grades K-2 each have an iPad in their classroom. The Chromebooks and iPads combine various educational resources that benefit students and teachers by allowing access to the most current data. Students visit different global sites, and instructors employ the internet as a tool of inquiry to expand on lessons and curriculum units. There is greater adaptability of instruction for students with special needs. Students use G-Suite to save and store files where they can easily pick them up from home and school. A “Tech Team” of technicians, students, teachers, administrators, and an educational technologist helps to ensure the consistent and ongoing use of technology to enhance learning in all areas and at all levels.
Common Sense Media
At WIMS, we use the Common Sense Media site to help us learn about Online Safety and Digital Citizenship. There are movie and game reviews for parents and most importantlyvideos about online safety. There are many parent ideas and student videos for teaching and learning.
