A certified Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) provides individualized specialized instruction and/or consultative services to meet the unique educational needs specific to vision loss. A TVI works in a variety of educational settings serving students identified as visually impaired or legally blind ranging in age from 4-21 years old who are registered clients of BESB (CT State Bureau of Education and Services for the Blind).
The TVI collaborates with team members to create effective environmental and curriculum related adaptations to support the development of independence, self-advocacy, classroom participation, visual functioning abilities and/or compensatory strategies. The TVI may provide accessible materials such as large print or braille and facilitate the use of adaptive technology. Support and resources are provided to families and the school community.
