March 8th, 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(North Haven, CT – March 8, 2022) Area Cooperative Educational Services (ACES) is pleased to announce that Rebecca (Becky) Cuevas has been promoted to the role of Director of Special Programs and Community Engagement. This position oversees and supervises the Head Start/Early Head Start programs, ACCESS, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and community engagement. In her new role, Becky will hold a seat on the Executive Leadership Council. She began her new position on March 1st.

Becky has over 30 years of experience working with families, early education, and home visiting initiatives in Connecticut. She has long believed that parents play an essential role in their children’s lives and that families thrive when they feel supported within their communities. Throughout the past 19 years, Becky has worked in a variety of roles at ACES. She was one of the original team members to implement the Early Head Start program. Most recently, she was the ACES Early Head Start and Head Start Director. In this position, she lead ACES work with partners Capitol Region Education Council (CREC), Catholic Charities, and The Village for Families and Children to manage federal Head Start and Early Head Start Programs in Hartford and Middlesex Counties. The partnership was the result of a $9.1 million award received by CREC to support and develop Head Start and Early Head Start programs. ACES Early Head Start and Head Start programs and its partnerships have established relationships to ensure early, continuous, intensive, and comprehensive development, preschool, and family support services for children living in Middlesex County.

“Becky brings a breadth of knowledge, expertise, and experiences,” said Dr. Thomas Danehy, Executive Director of ACES, “She is a great voice and advocate for so much of our mission-driven work at ACES.”

“I am truly grateful for this wonderful opportunity to join the Executive Leadership Council in my new position. The work across ACES schools and programs continues to inspire me today just as much as it did 19 years ago when I was hired,” said Becky. “I wish to bring a perspective intertwined with my many years of experience that is deeply rooted in early childhood, head start, education, social work, family and community engagement. With the many priorities before us, I will remain committed to equity and inclusion through opportunities that will allow the many voices around us to be heard.”
