Occupational Therapists and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants must have graduated from an accredited occupational therapy program before taking the national accreditation examination for certification. Licensure to practice is required in Connecticut. Here at ACES, Occupational Therapist work at The Center for Autism Spectrum and Developmental Disorders, Mill Road School, Village School, Whitney High School East/West and CREATE, Whitney High School North.
Mission:
To support a student’s academic achievement and participation by promoting occupation, or “everyday activities”, within all school routines.
Vision/Philosophy:
- Assist students in acquiring the functional abilities necessary to access their educational materials and adapt to their educational environment.
- Provide evidenced based practice to assist students in acquiring the functional abilities needed to access their educational environment and curriculum.
- Develop and sustain relationships with families to better support the students at home and in the community.
- Foster a collaborate environment with all team members to ensure student success
Delivery Services
Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders
At CASDD-SAILS program, occupational therapists work with adolescent and young adult students to improve their independence in the area of functional life skills. Occupational therapists address acquisition of skills in the area of fine motor, visual motor, self-help and daily living routines. Skills are taught in various contrived environments such as the media center, copy room, kitchen, laundry room, bedroom, recreational room, locker room, salon and school store.
Mill Road School
We provide direct individual and group occupational therapy services to address student specific needs. Consultation or indirect occupational therapy is also provided to assist classrooms with strategies, modifications, and programs to improve student learning.
Our primary goal is to help students to fully access and be successful in their learning environment. School-based occupational therapists will look at the “occupations” or everyday activities that students would engage in while they are in school. We work on improving students’ overall school functioning so they can better attend to classroom instructions and address any concerns in the areas of graphomotor, fine motor, visual motor, sensory function and self-help skills.
Village School
We provide direct individual and group occupational therapy services to address student specific needs. Consultation or indirect occupational therapy is also provided to assist classrooms with strategies, modifications and positioning to improve student learning.
Our primary goal is to help students to fully access and be successful in their learning environment. School-based occupational therapists will look at the “occupations” or everyday activities that students would engage in while they are in school. We work on improving students’ overall sensory processing skills so they can better attend to classroom instructions and address concerns in the areas of fine motor, visual motor, and self-help skills.
Whitney High School East/West & CREATE
We provide direct individual and group occupational therapy services to address student specific needs. Consultation or indirect occupational therapy is also provided to assist classrooms with strategies, modifications, and positioning to improve student learning.
Our primary goal is to help students to fully access and be successful in their learning environment. School-based occupational therapists will look at the “occupations” or everyday activities that students would engage in while they are in school. We work on improving students’ fine motor, visual motor, self-help, and sensory processing skills so they can actively participate and become more independent in school-based, community, and pre-vocational/vocational tasks.
Whitney High School North
We provide direct individual and group occupational therapy services to address student specific needs. Consultation or indirect occupational therapy is also provided to assist classrooms with strategies, modifications, and positioning to improve student learning.
