School Climate Forum

ACES is hosting a forum to support school and district leaders in navigating Connecticut’s school climate legislation and help prepare them for the December 2025 approval deadline. Whether you’re just beginning your school climate planning or are looking to refine and finalize your district’s approach, this session will leave you equipped with resources, ideas, and clear next steps to strengthen climate and culture in your schools.

Objectives (appears on the evaluation form):

During this forum, participants will: Deepen their understanding of the legislative requirements outlined in CT Public Act 23-167; Clarify the distinct roles and responsibilities of school climate specialists, coordinators, and school climate committees; Learn what must be included in a comprehensive School Climate Improvement Plan; Gain access to the ACES School Climate Improvement Plan template and receive guidance on how to adapt it for their district or school needs; Explore examples of how restorative practices and tiered supports can be integrated into climate plans to foster stronger relationships and improve school culture; Collaborate with peers to brainstorm the professional learning and capacity-building opportunities necessary to meet the expectations of school climate committees and successfully turnkey this work to their teams.

The forum will also provide opportunities for leaders to: Engage in discussion and Q&A with ACES facilitators; Begin mapping out timelines and next steps to ensure compliance with policy requirements and effective implementation; Identify data collection needs and tools to assess school climate and inform continuous improvement.

CT Leader & Educator Evaluation & Support

In support of the new Educator Evaluation and Support Plans, Leaders, educators and PDEC members from across the state are invited to participate in a one-and-half-day professional learning opportunity focused on creating impactful Professional Learning Plans (PLPs). The sessions will cover the processes and available resources for developing PLPs that include high-leverage goals, meaningful professional learning plans and aligned evidence. Participants will leave with their own draft PLP for the 2025-26 school year. Additionally, participants will receive samples and resources to bring back to their PDEC committees, district leaders and educators to be shared and used as a resource in support of your 2025-26 work. Districts will receive reimbursement for participation.

Two sessions are being offered. The recommended participants for the leadership sessions are a member of central office (evaluator) and building leader (evaluatee), encouraged to attend together. The recommended participants for the educator sessions are a building leader (evaluator) and educator (evaluatee), encouraged to attend together (one or both participants in these sessions may be PDEC members). Attending as a team is not mandatory, however, collaboration among educators and leaders and their evaluators throughout the PLP development process will strengthen the overall professional learning community. Participants will leave with:

A clear understanding of a quality professional learning plan to advance leader, educator and student learning growth and achievement.
Access to a toolkit of resources, for your use and for collaboration with PDECs, designed to help leaders and educators within your district in creating meaningful and effective professional learning plans.
Professional contribution to our field of education in CT, as work completed may be utilized within a state toolkit.
