Thomas Edison Middle School Family STEMS Night Highlights Educational Curriculum
March 26th, 2019
(Meriden, CT March 22, 2019) Proving why ACES Thomas Edison Middle School (TEMS) prides itself on providing student opportunities to engineer, write, grow, and change their future, the school’s annual Family “STEMS” Night is scheduled for Thursday, April 4th at the school located at 355 N Broad St, Meriden, Connecticut. The free event this is open to the public and shows how TEMS’ students apply STEM work in the classroom. STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications.
“This night epitomizes what STEM is all about and how special the students here at TEMS truly are,” said Karen Habegger, TEMS Principal. “Those who come will be able to see fascinating student exhibits, sit in on interactive mini lessons, and enjoy hands-on activities.”
The event is sponsored by Discovery Education and begins at 6:30 p.m. and runs until 8:30 p.m. Besides the student- oriented activities, there will Amazon gift card prizes and prizes for completing a round-the-event exhibit passport. There is no need for reservations and students from the National Junior Honor Society will be selling refreshments and snacks.
Educating more than 720 students in grades 6 through 8, TEMS is an interdistrict magnet school with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Its mission is to empower teachers and students to use technology effectively in order to become knowledgeable, capable, and ethical digital citizens. By developing strong digital and 21st century skills within a welcoming school environment, teachers and students will be ready to work with the global environment in a safe and comfortable way.
