ACES New Administrator Appointments

North Haven, CT:  Area Cooperative Educational Services(ACES) is pleased to announce the appointment of the following administrators: 

Bryan Markiewicz as the new principal of ACES Whitney High School North, Heather Gish as principal of ACES at Mead School, and Rebecca (Becky) Cuevas as Director of ACES Early Head Start Program, and Dr. Sharon Locke as Assistant Director of ACES Professional Development and School Improvement Division (PDSI).

Markiewicz will become principal of ACES Whitney High School North, a special education high school where he began his ACES career 13 years ago as a teacher. He later held administrative positions in ACES ASPIRE program and ACES Mill Academy.  

Heather Gish joined ACES in August 2019 as Assistant Principal of ACES Thomas Edison Middle School. She is the former assistant principal at the Catherine M. McGee Middle School in Berlin. Before Berlin, Gish was the Dean of Students at Metropolitan Learning Center Interdistrict Magnet School for global and international studies in Bloomfield.

Dr. Locke joins ACES after a prolific career as an educator and school administrator. She most recently served as Superintendent of the Naugatuck Public Schools. She previously worked for the New Britain Public Schools as both the Chief Academic Officer and the Assessment Coordinator.   

Rebecca (Becky) Cuevas has worked with ACES Early Head Start program for over seventeen years. She’s being promoted from Coordinator to Director. In her new capacity, Ms. Cuevas will lead ACES Early Head Start initiatives and work closely with the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC), Catholic Charities, The Village for Families and Children on a recently received a $9.1 million federal grant to develop to manage the Hartford and Middlesex Counties’ federal Head Start and Early Head Start programs.

“We are extremely fortunate to have these four professionals as key members of ACES administrative team,” said ACES Executive Director Thomas Danehy. “They bring a wealth of experience, skill and energy to their respective positions. I have  no doubt that they will strengthen ACES learning community and serve to fulfill ACES mission to transform lives through education, innovation, and leadership.”

Area Cooperative Educational Services (ACES) is the regional educational service center for New Haven and parts of Middlesex Counties.
