Solving Individual Special Student Needs

The ACES Pupil Services Department specializes in providing support to students within the educational setting. This service also consults with member districts in the same fields.

ConnCase is convened by this department for Special Education Directors from ACES member school districts. This group meets regularly to gather best practices, exchange program ideas and exchange information about outside resources.

Assistive Technology Services is a program that is offered to our local school districts to assist with the evaluation and curricular integration of assistive technology including computer access, augmentative communication devices, and specialized educational software.

Hospital of Saint Raphael relies on ACES to fill a critical gap in the hospital’s inpatient mental health services for school age children. The program keeps students in the care of the hospital’s Children’s Psychiatric Emergency Services on pace academically, supporting the transition of the students in and out of the hospital setting by serving as a liaison between the family, school and CPES.

In-District Collaborative program at West Haven High School provides educational services to students identified with Intellectual Disabilities. Daily programming includes academic, vocational and social skills instruction.

Nursing provides health services to students within the ACES educational setting by promoting and facilitating positive health and safety.

Occupational Therapy provides service to students working on skill development that includes but is not limited to fine motor skills, visual motor/perceptual skills, sensory function and activities of daily living.

Physical Therapy provides service to students by working on and promoting the highest level of functioning possible as the student pursues their educational goals.

Psychology is an integral part of service to our students, their families and the ACES member districts. School Counseling services embrace the positions stated in The Connecticut Comprehensive

School Counseling and Best Practices Model as well as the tenants expressed by the American School Counseling Association.

School Social Work services are provided to students, families, and caregivers through the development and delivery of a continuum of comprehensive mental health services.

Speech/Language services address communication and related disorders that impact a student’s educational programming – social, academic, and vocational.
