Welcome to Academy I! We are the 6th and 7th grade team made up of 4 classrooms:
Room 307: Miss Stephanie Murray /Mr. Matt kennedy
Room 309: Mr. Bill Shanley/ Ms. Jodi Fowlin
Room 310: Ms. Nardia Tvardzik/ Ms. Letica Albelo
Room 316: Ms. Danielle Mislick/ Ms. Melissa Giddeons
Social worker: Justin Laprise
Behavior Technicians: Doug McEachern and Dam Cooper
Being on the Academy I team means students are now “Middle Schoolers”, which brings about a few behavioral changes. First, we do transition, but for guided reading and mathematics classes only. We only have one reinforcement period at the end of the day; this means one ALA results in a reinforcement freeze. One of the most rewarding parts of joining the Academy Team is that our students are also able to participate on the sports teams, so long as they have signed their consent form and their physical is up to date!
Homework Policy: Homework is assigned in the core curriculum areas (Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies) when students have mastered a concept in school and are ready to practice at home. It is expected that students complete their homework independently; it helps us see what students know and still need practice on. Students are also encouraged to read independently 15 minutes nightly to strengthen their reading skills.
8:30-9:10 Arrival/Morning Work/Breakfast
9:10-9:50 Shared Reading
9:50-10:30 Guided Reading

Units of Study:
Science: Weather and climate, ecosystems, simple machines
Social Studies: United States History from the signing of the Constitution through the Industrial Revolution
We are also implementing English Language Arts Common Core units into our Shared Reading lessons.
