Thomas Edison Middle School in partnership with the CT Green LEAF School Program and their sustainability initiative .

Learn more about CT Green LEAF Schools by going to their website - CT Green Schools. We are working hard to become a sustainable greener and healthier school.

Currently we are working on 3 goals/action steps in order to reduce our carbon footprint...

  1. Elevate our Garden Club recognition in the school and improve our coordination with the cafeteria for local, healthier choices.

  2. Plan, develop, and implement an improved waste management system and greater recycling methods.

  3. Plan to incorporate environmental sensitivity and sustainable literacy into curricular and instructional practices for all school members.

Garden Club &  Towers Gardens

One of our ongoing projects is growing food using the aeroponic Tower Garden like you see pictured here.  Currently we are growing nutrient rich greens like swiss chard, spinach, boston lettuce and green leaf lettuce.  Students learn not just about how to cultivate and harvest  these veggies, but about the health benefits they provide.
