STEM Explorations kicks off at Eli Whitney Museum

THE ACES STEM Explorations interdistrict collaborative grant program kicked-off the year with 93 students at the Eli Whitney Museum in Hamden.  Four 5th grade teachers and their classrooms participated from Conte West Hills Magnet School (New Haven), Spring Glen School (Hamden), ACES Wintergreen Interdistrict Magnet School and Mead School (Ansonia).

Students learned about sound, light and technology as they cconstructed their own music machine: an automatic drummer whose rhythms can be reprogrammed flexibly and whose tempos adjust automatically.  Students also had fun participating in interactive math lessons involving fractions and patterns provided by an experienced math educator and coach.
