The Regional Educational Laboratory - Northeast and Islands (Rel-Nei)
www.relnei.org
REL-NEI’s mission is to help preK-16 educators at the state, district and school levels increase their use of scientifically based evidence to make decisions that lead to improved student achievement and reduced performance gaps among student groups. REL-NEI pursues this goal through four primary activities:
Analyzing Stakeholder Needs
Ongoing needs-analysis with multiple regional stakeholders informs the research agenda.
“Ask a REL”
This service provides quick responses to questions on educational policies, programs, and practices with links to research-based information as well as referrals to national and regional organizations. Visit: ies.ed.gov/ncee/edlabs/askarel.overy and Reinvestment Act.
Fast-Response Research Projects
Ranging from a month to a year, Fast-Response Projects synthesize and analyze existing data and resources to inform the decision-making process. They address regional needs.
Rigorous Research and Studies
These multiyear, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigate the causal impact of programs and products on student achievement in areas identified as high priority in our region.
REL-NEI serves New England, New York, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands; the region includes over 5 million students, nearly 10,000 schools and 2,000 districts, from rural settings to New York City. REL-NEI is funded by a 5-year contract from the Institute of Education Sciences, U.S. Department of Education.
