Donn Sottolano, Ph.D., BCBA-D

Donn received his Ph.D. in School Psychology from Ball State University in Indiana. As part of his Ph.D. program, Donn completed a pre doctoral internship in the Behavior Psychology Department at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine - Kennedy Center, where he completed rotations in the Self Injury Clinic under Dr's. Brian Iwata and Gary Pace, and the Outpatient Clinic under the direction of Dr's. John Parrish and Terry Page. Prior to coming to ACES, Donn conducted research and published papers in parent training (Kennedy Center), adult feeding programs for people with developmental disabilities (Fircrest School and Hospital, Seattle, WA) and multi-element treatment designs (Ball State University). Donn came to ACES in 1988, at which time he was hired to design and implement behavior services for students participating in ACES programs. The ACES Behavior Services Center currently employs 106 staff, including 3 BCBA-D's, 13 BCBA's, and 1 BCaBA. Donn is currently serving on the Board of The International Behaviorology Institute (TIBI), an independent organization dedicated to promoting the science of applied behavior analysis.

Jim received a Ph.D. in Developmental and Child Psychology from the University of Kansas. He has been with ACES since 1988 providing consultation/training primarily in developing pedagogic systems, instructional design, and behavior management. Prior to joining the ACES team Jim conducted instructional research. At this time he designed instructional materials for children with pervasive developmental disabilities.

   

Berdest Wrisbon-Huggins

Berdest has served in the role of Behavior Services Center Secretary since September 2000. During this period Berdest has participated on several committees, including the ACES Diversity Committee where she acted as committee coordinator. She is currently serving on the Gateway Community College Business Office Advisory Committee. Berdest is a member of NAESAA (National Association for Executive Secretaries and Administrative Assistants) and the NAEOP (National Association of Education Office Professionals). Berdest received her B.S. degree, in Human Services, in 2005 through Ashwood University.

Thomas Zwicker, Ph.D., BCBA-D

Tom received his Ph.D. in Developmental and Child Psychology from the University of Kansas. Since joining ACES he has developed School-Wide Positive Behavior Supports systems, consulted on complex cases, led home program teams for children with autism, and adapted standardized functional analysis methods to observe and run each functional analysis condition in the real environment. Before joining ACES, Tom coached executives and leaders to use applied behavior analysis principles to improve results, led teams to incorporate ABA with System Safety to reduce airline fatalities by redesigning the way the FAA oversees airlines, and led teams in national campaigns to reduce alcohol-related fatalities and increase safety belt use.

   

Carrie Hartman, M.S., BCBA

Carrie received her M.S. in Behavior Analysis from the University of North Texas and a B.A. in speech pathology from the University of Florida. Since Carrie's arrival in CT., in 2004, she has taught courses in Behavior Analysis at the University of Connecticut, helped develop guidelines for the ACES Home Outreach Program, serviced families in the home and community, and has assisted school districts in designing effective environments for children with autism. Carrie conducted research in stimulus equivalence while at UNT.

   

Jorge Garcia, M.A., BCBA

Jorge received his B.A. in psychology from the University of California and his M.A. in Human Development at the University of Kansas, studying under Dr. Don Baer and other prominent leaders in the field of Behavior Analysis. Jorge has been working as a behavior analyst since 1989 and has been with the ACES BSC team since 2003. Jorge's prior experience includes staff training and consultation with Head Start.

Kendra received her B.S. in psychology and her M.A. in Applied Behavior Analysis from Western Michigan University. Kendra worked as the Education Coordinator for Spectrum Center Schools in California. Her experience includes staff supervision and classroom management, as well as aiding in the development of a computer based staff training program. Kendra has presented a number of papers related to the Behavioral Research Supervisory System. Kendra joined the ACES BSC Consultation team in August 2008 and is currently providing behavior support for the ACES Village School Programs.

   

Jennifer Phillips, M.S., BCBA

Jennifer received her M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis in Developmental Disabilities from Auburn University and her B.A. in psychology from the University of Maine at Farmington. She has been working with individuals and families since 2004 and consulting in school systems since 2005. She joined the ACES BSC Consultation Team August 2008. Jennifer's prior experience includes creating a model special education classroom for the state of Alabama as well as co-writing Special Education Extended Standards Curriculum System for grades K-12 to be used throughout the state of Alabama.

   

Finessa Slater, M.A., BCBA

Finessa received her B.S. in psychology from Northeastern University and her M.A. in Applied Behavior Analysis from Teachers College, Columbia University.  Finessa has been with the ACES BSC since December 2007. Prior to joining ACES Finessa was a certified Special Education Teacher at the Fred Keller School in New York. She has been providing behavioral services in both residential and school settings since 2003. Finessa has presented research on conditioned listening to voices on preschool students' learn units and the use of self-monitoring bracelets to decrease vocal stereotypic behavior.

   

Danielle Sunter, M.S., BCBA

Danielle received a B.S in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University and her M.S. in Behavior Analysis from Simmons College in Boston. Danielle worked as a special education teacher for the Westbrook Public School system from 2006 to 2010, where along with her instructional responsibilities she provided behavior support to families, students, and staff. Upon joining the ACES Behavior Services Center team in August, 2010, Danielle has worked as the consulting Behavior Analyst for the Madison Public School system, where she provides a range of behavior supports to staff and students from preschool through high school. Danielle also provides behavior services through the ACES Home Outreach Program.

   

Ellen Baecker, M.A., BCaBA

Ellen received her M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Southern Connecticut State University, and her B.A. from Rutgers University. She has provided training, assessment, and clinical support to children with social emotional problems and their families since 1989 when she first joined the ACES Behavior Services Center team. Ellen has also spearheaded the ACES BSC support for New Haven's Urban Youth Elementary School Project which is now housed at Mill Road School.

Cara Cappalli, M.S. Ed., BCBA

Cara received a B.A. in Sociology from Saint Michael's College and a M.S. ED. in Behavioral Education from Simmons College. Cara joined the ACES BSC team in 2004.  Cara has represented ACES at the Annual ABAI conference where she has presented workshops and research on autism. Prior to joining the ACES team, Cara coordinated and directed a home-based EIBI programming for children with autism and related disorders in Rhode Island. Cara has been providing support services to families and children on the autism spectrum since 1998.

   

Lisa Tereshko, M.S., BCBA

Lisa received a M.S. in Behavior Analysis from Northeastern University. She has been with ACES since 2007 and has been providing behavioral services to families and schools since 2004. Prior to her joining the ACES team, Lisa provided behavioral services for the residential and preschool programs at The New England Center for Children. Lisa has conducted, published, and presented the results of research in strategies for teaching children with autism to imitate response chains using video modeling.

   

Cyndi Giordano, M.A., BCBA

Cyndi received a B.A. in Psychology and Special Education from Salve Regina University and her M.A. in Applied Behavior Analysis and Special Education from Columbia University. Cyndi's experiences include providing behavior management and education to children at levels ranging from preschool to middle school. She has also conducted research on the effects of stimulus/stimulus pairing procedures and expanding communities of reinforcement for children on the Autism Spectrum. Cyndi has been with ACES since July 2008.

   

Erin Carey-Hearn, M.A., BCBA

Erin received her B.S. in literature, social psychology, and American studies at New York University and her M.A. in Applied Behavior Analysis from Western Michigan University.  Erin conducted research in introducing the picture exchange communication system in pre-school settings, as well as work in field of organizational behavior management. Erin worked in New York in a Developmental Disabilities Center servicing students with autism. Erin has recently moved from BSC Consultation Services to participate in the development and implementation of the new Center for Autism Spectrum and Developmental Disorders SAILS program for adolescents with autism and related disorders.

   

Caryn Mello-Kennedy, M.A., BCBA

Caryn received her B.A. from Vassar College and her M.A. in Biology from Teachers College, Columbia University. Caryn joined the ACES team in August 2004 where she led our EIBI efforts at the new Madison Town Campus Learning Center, later joining the EIBI team at Village School. Prior to joining the Aces Behavior Services Center, she worked as a consultant running early intervention home based programs, for children with autism and related disorders, in the US and Great Britain.
